His Holiness Karmapa's message as a foreword to the printed Karma Kagyu Calendars / October 2022
New Delhi, 25th October 2022
Through his all-encompassing direct vision of time and space, the Third Karmapa Rangjung Dorje composed a treatise on astrology called The Compendium of Astrology (rtsis kun bsdus pa), which forms the basis of what is nowadays known as the Tsurphu Tradition of Tibetan Astrology. It’s a convenient tool to tell time for those of us who wish to have a precise notion of it. It describes causal relations of time and space, which are not perceptible to the ordinary person but can be used to mprove temporary well-being and enhance wisdom and compassion on the Buddhist path. When applying this tool, we will gain—depending on our motivation—either a fleeting or a lasting, unshakable result.
Whichever result you aim at, I pray it will contribute to your and society’s benefit and, finally, to our direct recognition that time and space are mere concepts.
