The Tibetan calendar defines days auspicious and inauspicious for haircuts. Interestingly, we get quite a lot of emails about this.
Men are most interested in whether moustaches and beards are allowed on these "no haircut" days. The short answer is no. More specifically, it is not recommended.
The other regular question is about body hair. The same applies as for hair, moustache and beard: you can have one on an auspicious day for a haircut - you shouldn't have one on a inauspicious day.
The third typical question concerns nail trimming. So on non haircut days, no nail cutting is allowed? In some Indian traditions you can't, but in the tradition we follow this is irrelevant. So it is fine to cut nails, file, polish, etc. on non-haircutting days as well.
Some people ask what to do if there are several consecutive days with a haircutting 'ban' in the calendar? Unfortunately, we cannot answer that, but if a cut is absolutely unavoidable, it is advisable to cut on the next auspicious day immediately following, thus removing the characteristic of the inauspicious day. In this regard, it is best to be careful around the New Moon, when there are five consecutive non-haircutting days (from the 28th day of the lunar month to the 2nd day of the following lunar month).
